Psychology graduate / assistant groups

Groups can be a great way to meet other people who are aiming for clinical training. They often organise lectures by clinical psychologists, and are a grapevine for job vacancies. All in all, a good context in which to learn a bit and 'get your face known'.

This page lists contact details for psychology graduate / assistant groups around the UK. As far as I know, it is current and complete, but the informal nature of groups means that they can be set up (or disbanded) at any time. It's also tricky to ensure that all contact details are up to date, as group co-ordinators tend to change each year.

If you notice anything missing, out of date, or just plain wrong on this page, please get in touch and I will amend the listing.

Some more info on local groups can be found in the forum, e.g. forthcoming meetings. If there is no group currently active near you, try asking around in the forum - there may well be some like-minded folk nearby.

Please note that psyclick is not involved in the organisation of any of these groups.

East Anglia Assistant Psychologist Group

Assistant Psychologists in the North Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk areas have generally been meeting on monthly basis for a while now. We understand that there are smaller local groups in the region, but would like to invite anyone to participate in the regional group, and have members from NHS and private organisations.

Currently the group:

  • Invites local clinical psychologists (normally supervisors) and other professionals to talk about their area of work, therapeutic methods or psychological models they use
  • Discuss issues around our own work and clinical training
  • Share local job vacancies
  • Offer valuable peer support. Many of our current members have had none, or very little contact with other assistants in the region, even their own area and did not know that we existed!
  • Aim to reduce those feelings of isolation, especially for those who have moved into the region for the first time
  • Are a friendly bunch of souls and encourage a social aspect

We appreciate that it is a big region and aim to share meetings around the members' own localities. Each member (or group of members in an area) has the opportunity to organise a meeting, invite a speaker (if not already invited), find a room and arrange equipment, liaise with the co-ordinator to get everyone there, and find half decent pub/restaurant for afterwards!
